Giant Monster Eats City

“Cloverfield” opens tomorrow (1/18/08). What’s that? Well it’s a movie produced by J.J. Abrams (the same guy who is making the next Star Trek film) about a giant monster that attacks New York City. It’s told from the perspective of a small group of people who document what’s going on around them with a digital video camera – think of it as “Godzilla” meets “Blair Witch”.

Yeah, good times… good times… It should be fun BUT what will probably push me over the edge and buy a ticket is the teaser trailer for Star Trek 11 (please see attached picture ala Ain’t It Cool News).

Yep. I do believe a trip to the theater is in order.

Cloverfield looks to be an interesting film considering that the ad campaign has touched the post 9/11 nerve in many of us.

You know when I was a kid, giant monster movies were my fave. I even had an escape plan all made up, should Godzilla attack my street in South Philadelphia (hint, run several blocks to the left or right of the big guy, avoiding his tale. Get behind him, and run in the other direction, he never turns back. That way you can safely avoid the mayhem).

A solid escape plan – save for Mothera or Mechagodzilla. If I’m not mistaken both of them knocked that atomic breathed, big lizard on his tuckas!

I could be wrong though.

Say, do you remember those two tiny singing Japanese girls from the moon (or Mars – I forget which)?

Good times… good times.
