By the Power of Grayskull!

May 4th was Free Comic Book day.  It was also the unveiling of the latest display in the window at Level Up Entertainment and Far Point Toys in the Hamilton Mall (at 4403 Black Horse Pike, Mays Landing, NJ, to be precise).  Their last display was the award winning Marvel Diorama and you can read all about that here: http://evilchickenscratch.blogspot.com/2011/12/level-up-entertainment-farpoint-toys.html.  This post, however, is not about the past; it is about the future, about passion, and yes, it’s about art.  Justin & Penelope are part of the partnership owner – operators of Level Up Entertainment and Far Point Toys.  Justin & Penelope (and Scott – who was a big hand towards the end of the project) are the shapers or worlds; last time was Marvel’s New York City and this time it is The Masters of the Universe, Castle Grayskull and, Gentle Reader, Eternia, He-Man’s world, never looked so good.

By the Power of Grayskull!”

"By the Power of Grayskull!", Justin & Penelope shouted as the unveiled the latest masterpiece.  Again, I say, make no mistake, the effort and painstaking creation elevates this far and beyond an advertising campaign or mere display.  No, this is art.

As with any genre Fandom has its own culture, its own nomenclature and when something transcends our ‘geek’ community and reaches a wider fan base the world is a better place – and love is spread.  Simple but true.  A passion for the power of a story or music or art spreads, grows, and can captivate all those with the eyes to see, hear, or experience it.  It is an intimate form of communication that between the artist & the viewer, the writer & the reader, the music maker & the listener.  It is magic.  And magic begs to be shared.  The time came for consideration of the future and what should replace the Marvel Diorama.  Great plans were made and Penelope came up with the brilliant, decision on how to fund and create the successor to the display.  Instead of having to tackle the daunting task of putting the money up front for the new diorama Kickstarter was chosen as a means to fund the project.  By utilizing Kickstarter Penelope & Justin gave the fandom community – OUR community, a stake in building the next GREAT display from Level Up and Far Point.

There was never any doubt that Justin’s & Penelope's new display would blow our socks off the trick is captivating the imaginations of those passing by who are not fans yet who have no inclination as to what they are about to see in that window.  I am happy to report that, “Power of Grayskull” delivers in spades.  Go.  Take your time and enjoy.  After all, this is how the love is spread.  And I guarantee, there’s a lot of love to be found right there.

I do apologize for my photography.  The close-ups of the diorama I took are not the best.  All the more reason for you to go and see for yourself!

Thanks to Justin & Penelope - Scott too!
