Tió de Nadal or the Tradition of the Poop Log

In Catalonia there is a tradition that starts on December 8th (the Feast of the Immaculate Conception) and ends on Christmas Eve / Christmas where a Tió de Nadal (Christmas Log) is ‘fed’ each night until 12/24 where it is beaten with sticks and told to, “POOP LOG, POOP!”  Which it better had lest the beatings continue.  As Wikipedia states, “When nothing is left to "shit", it drops a salt herring, a head of garlic, an onion or "urinates". What comes out of the tió is a communal rather than individual gift, shared by everyone present.”

“Stop.  Just stop it right now, Evil Chicken.  You’re making this up.”

No.  It’s the real deal.  Here’s Wikipedia’s link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poop_log.

“But that’s Wikipedia.  People can say anything on Wikipedia.”

Do a Google.  I’ll wait…

SEE!  I’m not making it up!  Don’t be so cynical ~ it’s Christmas.  I’m thinking of doing one next year.  I think the girls will enjoy beating the tió for goodies.  It builds character.  Besides who doesn’t like salt herring, garlic, & onions?

Merry Christmas, Gentle Reader!
